Our History
The Silver Fawn Club was officially founded in 1970, born from a grassroots desire to create a social space for Sri Lankan migrants in Brisbane. The founding committee– including Eric Ferdinands, Fred Foenander, Eustace Fernando, Frank Vander Straaten, Denis Noble, Ivor Ephraims, Stanley Anthonisz, and Leslie Ephraims– held early gatherings and socials that led to the formal naming of the Club on 30 May 1970.
The Club grew quickly, welcoming over 100 members in its first year and doubling that soon after. It became incorporated in 1987 and has since hosted hundreds of events, including New Year’s Eve dances, Carols by Candlelight, Golden Years Party, Have-a-Chat socials, family camps, sports tournaments and festive community celebrations.
Many long standing members have contributed their time and talents over the decades, helping to create a welcoming, family-friendly space that honours both tradition and change. They continue to shape the Club’s spirit of connection, contribution and celebration.
